Improving Speed to Market for New Product Launches
At A Glance
United Alliance (UA) designed and executed a product launch process that enabled, standardized, and streamlined new product releases. With this initiative, UA activated its client's growth plan and initiated the first new product launch since the inception of the original product line. The UA framework was adopted by the client to introduce multiple new products in a short time period, fostering market expansion and driving new revenue streams.
The Situation:
Our client's product line was at a mature stage in its lifecycle, and its sales growth was stagnating. This situation put the company's future growth targets at risk. They were at a point of saturation with their incumbent customer base, and their cost of new customer acquisition was on the rise. They needed a plan to develop new products and expand into new sales channels. However since they hadn't introduced a new product line in several years, the client did not have the capability to manage the complexities of a launch.
The Ask
The client sought a coherent strategy that would resonate across the organization and enable the prioritization of cross-functional resources focused on expanding the product mix. This required that UA build relationships across the enterprise and deepen its understanding of cross-functional business challenges. The client needed to foster global (HQ) and regional buy-in to implement a product launch structure that could accelerate from zero to several launches in a given year.
The Solution:
UA developed a streamlined process to prioritize and launch new SKUs for the client. We fostered a collaborative and transparent approach,
ensuring all stakeholders were included in the process. The approach assessed the state of the business across four key dimensions:
-
Market: Translating customer expectations into specific product requirements, justifying the design of new products while staying
connected to the brand. -
People: Defining clear roles and responsibilities for cross-functional teams to enhance organizational efficiency and alignment.
-
Technical Product: Achieving manufacturing excellence for production by collaborating with suppliers on qualification trials and
approvals. -
Launch: Executing a flawless, customer-centric launch through detailed project management and inter-department collaboration.
Real Impact
Revenue Rejuvination
UA's re-engineering of the product launch revitalized the company's stagnant product line with regionally manufactured products that better met local customer expectations. This overhaul leveraged detailed market feedback to create superior products, and enhanced the client's ability to introduce new offerings and expand market reach. This new framework generated $14M in new revenue in 2023, with an NPV (Net Present Value) of $85 million.
